Jakarta / Bandung - PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) has launched the latest sedan, the latest generation Honda Accord which is more sophisticated and more sophisticated in terms of technology. For the first time, Honda brought advanced safety features labeled Honda Sensing on the Accord.

In this latest Honda Accord test drive opportunity, we tested it on the highway from Karawang to Bandung. In addition, we also tried active safety features in a closed environment at the Bridgestone Proving Ground circuit in Karawang, West Java.

1. Exterior Design
Before discussing further about the sense of driving and comfort, there's nothing wrong we discussed this latest Honda Accord design. Moreover, Honda has remodeled this luxury sedan, including the exterior.
This latest Honda Accord looks more sporty than the previous generation. This sedan car features a lower footing and roofline, as well as a longer bonnet to produce more dynamic performance. With a slightly shorter overhang than before, the design of the face of the All New Honda Accord features a typical Honda character with Chrome Wing Grille, Wing-Shaped Headlight.
The lines on the hood add to the athletic appearance on the front, while the thinner, leaning pillar A produces a wider field of view for the driver, increasing 7.9 degrees compared to the previous model.
The sporty side view is marked by a firm body line that extends from front to back. The indentation on the door panel and the bottom gives the impression of being tough and solid.
The rim is even cooler. Honda Accord is equipped with 5-spoke aluminum rims measuring 18 x 8.0 inches that are uniquely designed. In fact, the Accord's rims are designed with a sound absorbing design that can reduce noise by up to 6 dB.
The main element of the soundproofing function is the application of resonators and resin molding embedded in the rim. The design reduces sound resonance in the air column inside the wheel. One of the advantages of the soundproofing system inside the wheel is the significant reduction of noise when the car is traveling in various road conditions.
The athletic and energetic appearance also appears on the back, with the Overhang being slightly longer than the previous model. Tailgate with a dynamic design improves the flow of air from the body, while the LED Light-Pipe taillights give an increasingly luxurious look.
In line with the LED DRL design at the front, the rear lights use C-shaped LED lights.

2. Interior Design
The interior of the All New Honda Accord now looks more luxurious and more spacious. Thanks to a wider and longer wheelbase, cabin space now feels more spacious. In the rear legroom there is at least an additional 48 mm so as to add comfort.

All important systems and controls are placed in a position that is easily accessed by the driver, while the buttons most commonly used are placed on the steering wheel. Important information is displayed on the new ultra-slim 7-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) meter driver combined with a speedometer that is easily seen by the driver.
Drivers and front passengers can also enjoy panoramic views out of the cabin thanks to a wider body, and a lower Pillar A design, which is designed 20% thinner and leaner backward from the driver's position.
For the front seat bucket seat design has been applied to provide comfort. the seats on the bench are designed with different thicknesses in various areas for better comfort and safety.
The driver's seat can be electrically adjusted for a total of 12 directions, including 4-Way Adjustable Lumbar Support. While the front passenger seat can be electrically adjusted to as many as 4 directions.
Unfortunately, the Honda Accord brought to Indonesia is not equipped with a sunroof which will add to the premium aura. Even so, quality materials at least represent the impression of premium in the interior of this latest Honda Accord.
3. Comfort of a Sedan Car
As a premium sedan, the Honda Accord must provide comfort. Not only for the driver, rear passengers must also feel comfort.
Sitting as a rear passenger, the Honda Accord still offers comfort for those of us who are 178 cm tall. Legroom is very spacious and the headroom is still a lot of space.

But there are some notes, especially the armrest that separates the left-right seat in the back is too low. We feel that the armrest is not high enough so it is not optimal to support the hand.
Comfort is also felt from the cabin tightness. The Honda Accord is indeed very quiet when driving so it feels more comfortable. Not a lot of noise coming in, the sound of tire friction with asphalt can be muted.
Moreover, it is supported by a 452 watt audio system with 10 Premium Audio Speakers positioned on the front door and rear deck. While the Tweeter Speaker is positioned near the A pillar and side of the rear deck. But in order to get a more comfortable sound to listen to, we have to adjust the bass and treble settings yourself.
4. Feel the sophisticated Honda Sensing
As mentioned earlier, for the first time Honda brought the Honda Sensing feature in Indonesia in this latest Accord. There are several sophisticated Honda Sensing functions available on the Accord, including Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM).

In the Bridgestone Proving Ground we tried this advanced feature. Initially, we got the chance to try LKAS and RDM. Simulations, we drove on the highway with several lanes. The two systems will keep the car in its lane. If the car is detected out of the lane, the system automatically gives a warning to the driver and gradually returns the car into its lane.
With LKAS feature, if the system detects the car straying from the middle of the lane at speeds between 72 km / hr to 180 km / hr, the system will activate the motion correction on the steering wheel to help the driver return the vehicle to the center of the lane.

LKAS can be activated or deactivated by using the lever at the bottom right of the steering wheel. To support LKAS features, Accord uses cameras to read road markings and EPS systems. This feature is useful when driving on the highway.
While RDM uses a monocular camera to recognize solid lines and broken lines on the highway, as well as road markers. RDM uses EPS to keep the vehicle in its lane, and if the vehicle is detected exiting the lane and crossing a solid road divider, the system will work through VSA to return the vehicle to the correct lane.
Initially it was rather rigid to drive a car with this advanced technology. It is as if we as drivers fight against the will of the car where the steering wheel will fight a little when detected out of the lane. But in fact this feature is very helpful if the driver is off guard when the car exits the lane without being desired.
Next we tried the Adaptive Cruise Control feature integrated with Low-Speed Follow. With Low-Speed Follow, the car can follow the vehicle ahead in Stop and Go conditions up to a speed of 0 km / hour. This can be useful during traffic jams. If the car is in front of the road, this Accord follows the road, if the car in front stops the Accord will follow along.
In the Bridgestone Proving Ground circuit we also feel the Low-Speed Follow feature. Simulations are like being stopped and go in a traffic jam. The car in front of the Honda HR-V is asked to progress slowly and stop like when stuck. By activating the Adaptive Cruise Control feature, we don't need to brace or brake again. When HR-V is running, the Accord automatically follows the speed of the car ahead. When the HR-V in front stops, the Accord will stop. However, the distance between the Accord and the HR-V in front when it stops is too far so that it creates a gap of approximately one unit of the car, unlike the distance between cars when the bumper-to-bumper jams. At least this is a way so that the car does not crash into the car in front and this feature is very easy in times of exhausting traffic.
On the toll road, we also try to activate the Adaptive Cruise Control feature. Like activating the cruise control feature on most cars, the driver can set the speed driving on the highway. On the toll road to Bandung, which was a little quiet, we set the maximum speed at 100 km / hour. However, when there is a car in front of the speed below 100 km / hour, this Accord will automatically follow the speed of the car in front and keep a distance. If the car in front of the brakes, automatic Accord that has been activated Adaptive Cruise Control system will follow to reduce speed. This system is very helpful for the driver's comfort so there is no need to bother stepping on the gas-brake-gas-brake. However, because we still rarely use this feature, our feet must stand by on the brake pedal to prevent unwanted things. As Honda said, the driver still plays an important role and don't trust the system too much.
Returning to the Bridgestone Proving Ground circuit, after trying Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, we got the chance to experience the Collision Mitigation Braking System feature, a feature that can brake automatically while not crashing into a car in front of it.
Simulations, we drove at a speed of 20 km / h, but in front there was a car stopped which was represented by a dummy with a picture of the back of the car. This feature works by using a millimeter wave radar unit hidden behind the front grille and a monocular camera that is located between the rear view mirror and the windshield to detect conditions in front of the car.
If a vehicle or object is detected in front of a distance that is getting closer, the system will provide a warning to the driver through an image on the MID screen. If the driver does not heed the warning, the system will apply automatic braking. We feel that braking that is done automatically is quite hard and falls into the category of hard braking or panic braking. However, this system managed to avoid a collision with the vehicle dummy in front and leaving distance.
The Collision Mitigation Braking System feature is useful for drivers who may be careless not seeing any vehicle stop in front.
In addition to these features, the Honda Accord is also equipped with an Auto High Beam system that optimizes the use of car headlights. When the headlights are set to the Auto position, the system automatically turns on the headlights. However, if the camera detects a vehicle from the opposite direction or driving in front, the headlights will automatically turn on to normal lights. This works for safety so that when using high beam lights do not dazzle the vehicle in front.
5. Take the toll road
After trying to experience the advanced Honda Sensing features, we were given the opportunity to drive ourselves from Karawang to Bandung. Through the toll road, we can feel the performance of the sedan used by these executives.

As an illustration, Honda has used a new engine for the Accord. Now, the latest Honda Accord carries a 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo DOHC engine. This engine is said to have received further development from the 1.5 turbo engine which was first available in the Honda Civic. With Direct Injection system, Low-Inertia Mono Scroll Turbo with Electric Waste-Gate and dual Variable Timing Control (VTC), this engine produces more power and torque compared to the previous model.
The power generated increases thanks to the "4-into-2" Exhaust Manifold which perfects the exhaust gas flow to the turbo engine. This system produces a maximum power of 190PS at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 260Nm at 1,600-5,000 rpm.

When we launch the Honda Accord on the highway, car acceleration is fairly responsive, especially when using Sport mode. With the CVT transmission character it does feel a bit long to touch high speed. However, you can play the paddle shift behind the wheel like you're shifting gears to maximize the gear ratio in a manual transmission car.
The paddle shift feature functions to provide greater control over automatic transmission shifts, especially when driving on hills. The downshift function allows the driver to gear down through the Paddle Shift to give the Engine Braking effect. Not only that, the Paddle Shift also serves to provide a more aggressive engine pull effect when needed when going through other cars.
6. Conclusion
That is our test of the Honda Accord sedan. This car is very comfortable for a midsize sedan.
