London - British Prime Minister (PM), Boris Johnson, tested positive for the Corona virus or COVID-19. PM Johnson reportedly experienced mild symptoms and is now undergoing self-isolation.
"In the last 24 hours, I experienced mild symptoms and tested positive for the Corona virus," wrote PM Johnson via Twitter, as reported by CNN on Friday (3/27/2020).
"I am now doing self-isolation, but I will continue to lead the government's response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will defeat this," he added.
It is not yet known exactly where PM Johnson contracted the Corona virus.
In a separate statement, a spokesman for the British PM's office or Downing Street said a Corona virus examination was carried out on Prime Minister Johnson who is now 55 years old, on the advice of the British health authorities. The examination was carried out after PM Johnson experienced mild symptoms on Thursday (3/26) local time.
"After experiencing mild symptoms yesterday, the Prime Minister underwent examination of the Corona virus on the personal advice of the British Medical Chief, Professor Chris Whitty," said a Downing Street spokesman.
"The examination was conducted at (Downing Street) No. 10 (as the UK PM's office) by NHS staff (British National Health Service) and the results were positive. In accordance with the guidelines, the Prime Minister underwent isolation on Downing Street," the spokesman added. .
So far, British authorities have confirmed more than 11 thousand cases of the Corona virus in its territory, with 578 people dead.
