Metaverse is a combination of several elements of technology, including virtual reality, augmented reality (AR), and video. The combination of these three technologies allows users to be in a digital world called the metaverse.

Metaverse can range from concerts, conferences to virtual trips around the world. Metaverse is said to have no boundaries in all fields such as business, economics, education, IT and the world of entertainment.

"In addition to the metaverse technology we use, all the designs we use on invitations, souvenirs, and included in the metaverse also collaborate with Indonesian artist, Wulang Sunu, who also often holds art exhibitions," Oscar said via WhatsApp, Monday. (4/6/2022).

This 29-year-old man revealed the reason for presenting metaverse technology at his wedding. He wanted everyone he invited but couldn't attend in person to still be able to enjoy his wedding.

"So that guests can witness and enjoy the atmosphere or vibes of our wedding even though they are not present in person. Especially because of limited mobility during this pandemic," he said.

The man who is familiarly called Oscar explained that to attend a metaverse wedding, invited guests simply access the link that has been provided. After that the guests will be greeted with the strains of Javanese gamelan songs. Guests must also send a guest book to say hello and as a message to the bride and groom.

"After filling out the guest book, the guest enters the main room of the metaverse, is greeted by our avatar (the bride) complete with Javanese wedding dress with a 360 degree view. The names of the guests who attended / who have filled out the guest book also appear in our wedding metaverse, along with avatars of the other guests, so it's really like attending a wedding."

In Oscar and Erlinda's metaverse wedding, guests are presented with a variety of experiences, including watching a full video live stream of the wedding and reception from start to finish. In addition to live streaming of wedding videos, various other interesting content is also presented in the form of icons on the right and left of the bride's avatar.

In addition, Erlinda and Oscar's wedding provides food and beverage voucher content, in the form of kwetiau, brownies, and coffee drinks that can be used by guests.

This food voucher content gives guests vibes like enjoying a meal at a wedding in general. Other content is content that contains marriage information and stories about the journey of Erlinda and Oscar, from the first meeting when they were both at Gadjah Mada University and dating for 10 years since 2012.

Erlinda and Oscar became the first Indonesian couple to hold a metaverse wedding. What's the story like?

Oscar revealed the results of the research he did together with several colleagues, this metaverse wedding event was the first in Indonesia, even in Southeast Asia.

"On the other hand, the technology for the wedding metaverse that we have developed is relatively new and there has never been anything like it in the world, because guests only need to use their smartphone to access our wedding metaverse," he said.

The smartphone device was deliberately chosen by Oscar, so that this metaverse marriage is easily accessible to anyone. Guests do not need to use special technological devices as used in metaverse weddings in other countries.

For potential couples who want to hold a metaverse wedding, Oscar said metaverse technology makes it easier for guests who can't attend.

"Of course, the metaverse-shaped wedding event that we created is something unique and new for the community, and could become a trend in the future. This metaverse technology can remove space or physical boundaries in a wedding party, all colleagues, friends, family, can invited to be able to feel the vibes of happiness to give blessings to the bride and groom," concluded Oscar.
