All pharmacies were asked by the Indonesian Ministry of Health to stop selling syrup or liquid drugs. This policy is due to the 192 mysterious cases of acute kidney failure reported in Indonesia.
In addition to pharmacies, the ban is also aimed at all health workers (health workers) not to give prescriptions in the form of syrup or liquid drugs.
"Until an official announcement is made from the government in accordance with the provisions of the legislation," the Ministry of Health urged, quoted from the Updetails.com.
"All pharmacies temporarily do not sell over-the-counter and/or limited-free drugs in the form of syrup to the public until an official announcement is made from the government," the Indonesian Ministry of Health confirmed in a written statement received by updetails.com, Wednesday (19/10/2022).
The Indonesian Ministry of Health also released the criteria for the category of suspect to probable related to acute kidney failure, namely:
Suspect case
Cases of disease in children aged 0-18 years with symptoms of anuria or oliguria that occur suddenly.
Probable case
Suspected cases are added with no history of previous kidney disorders or chronic kidney disease, with or without prodromal symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, vomiting, cough, runny nose. On laboratory examination, there was an increase in urea creatinine of more than 1.5 times or an increase of more than equal to 0.3 mg/dL/, and ultrasound examination revealed normal kidney shape and size, no abnormalities such as stones, cysts, or masses.
