In this match, Fritz actually scored more winners than Djokovic (33-25), but he also made 51 unforced errors (Djokovic only 26) which benefited the three-time US Open champion.
This victory keeps Djokovic's chances of winning the 24th grand slam title in his career. In the semifinals, she will again meet the winner of the duel between the representatives of the United States, namely Frances Tiafoe against Ben Shelton.
"It's normal that people support the home player, there's nothing wrong with that. I like the atmosphere here, I'm fine and I'm growing from that kind of energy," Djokovic said after the match, quoted by Sky Sports.
"I've played on this court for many years, had many epic matches, and I'm looking forward to the next one in the next few days. It's a great opportunity every time I step on the court, because at my age I don't know how much I can still get ."
In the women's singles event, home tennis player Coco Gauff progressed smoothly to the semifinals after beating Jelena Ostapenko 6-0, 6-2. She will next meet French Open 2023 finalist, Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic), who previously defeated Sorana Cîrstea (Romania) 6-0, 6-3.
