Direct Birth After the Chicago Marathon Competition

Some experts do advise pregnant women to keep exercising lightly so that their body is always fit. But a woman in the US who is pregnant is doing it by running a marathon and finally giving birth shortly after the finish.

A mother from Chicago, Amberl Miller (27 years old) was 39 weeks pregnant or nearly 10 months while participating in the Chicago Marathon recently. It is not easy to complete the 42.16 km race, but he can do it with a total record of 6 hours 25 minutes.

At the beginning of the race he did not even plan to finish it, otherwise he would stop in the middle. But until the last series, it turned out that he was still able to finish it even though he had to be extra careful with occasional running and occasionally running so as not to get tired.

When he arrived at the finish line, he was greeted by Joe, her husband who immediately invited him to celebrate the success by eating. By the time the two ate, Miller felt his stomach begin to contract and then asked to be taken by Central DuPage Hospital.

Miller gave birth to her second child, June Audra on Sunday (09/10/2011) right at 8:00 p.m. local time through normal childbirth for approximately 7 hours. A hospital spokesman said, Miller and her baby girl were in very healthy condition.

Meanwhile, health experts from Foxnews, Dr. Manny Alvarez admitted that exercise is good for pregnant women. However, according to him, participating in the marathon competition was as much as 42.16 km as Miller did rather exaggerated especially when it was done in an old pregnant condition.

"Shocks from the fetus in the stomach can not only trigger contractions, but can also trigger stress on the fetus or even unwanted accidents such as cord break," said Dr. Alvarez as quoted by Foxnews, Tuesday (11/10/2011).

The Spurs Hit Pause on All of Your Pelicans-Warriors Preview Content

Manu Ginobili turned back the clock and helped fend off reigning champions’ sweep

John Glaser-USA TODAY Sports
San Antonio hid the brooms on Sunday, beating Golden State, 103-90, to bring the series to 3-1. Here are three things to note from the unlikely win:

Manu Adds One More Highlight to His Résumé

Nothing definitive has been said about Manu Ginobili’s future after this season, but his Game 4 performance would be a fitting grand finale in front of the San Antonio crowd if it plays out that way. There were a few Argentina jerseys in the stands at AT&T Center, and Ginobili had 16 points—i.e., far more than his single-digit averages from this and the previous three Spurs postseasons—to fend off the Warriors’ sweep bid. The 40-year-old also scored eight of San Antonio’s final 10 points, including this crucial bucket:

With Kawhi Leonard still not with the team, it’s hard to know what will become of the roster this summer. If Leonard is traded and the team is forced into a hard reset for the first time in decades, Manu would have less incentive to come back for a 17th season. But with Tim Duncan already retired and Gregg Popovich on leave from the team, it was good to see a member of the old guard still making an impact, even if it was only for old time’s sake.

A Not-So-Golden State
Nothing has come as easily as expected this season for the Warriors. So it’s only appropriate that a series that seemed headed for a sweep will be extended at least one more game.

Losing one playoff game on the road isn’t worth an overreaction, but it gets the side-eye when looking at what’s to come for Golden State past the first round. The Warriors were held to 90 points; Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson together usually average half that. A Golden State team that has skewed bigger this series, with JaVale McGee starting at center and Andre Iguodala playing “point guard,” also allowed the Spurs to shoot 53.6 percent from 3.

Must Read

Perhaps Golden State should be relieved this wasn’t a sweep. The pregame clips of Steph Curry jogging and posting up in the corner are great content, but Steve Kerr tempered expectations on Sunday when he said that Curry was “not going to play anytime soon.” So while another loss wouldn’t be great for their healthy players, the longer the Warriors can delay a series against the Pelicans, the better for Curry’s return prospects.

Coaching Tryouts

For the second straight game, the Spurs were without Popovich, who is on leave after the death of his wife, Erin. In his place again on Sunday was assistant Ettore Messina, who has slowly picked up steam as a possible head coach outside of San Antonio as the playoffs have gone on. ESPN reported earlier in the day that Messina, a veteran of the overseas game who has been by Popovich’s side since 2014, was scheduled to meet with the Hornets later in the week about their coaching vacancy. Charlotte is also looking at Ime Udoka, another San Antonio assistant, per ESPN.

Getting a playoff win against the championship favorites is not a bad first impression.

WWE WrestleMania 34 Results: The Undertaker Destroys John Cena As Bold Booking Decision Delivers

The Undertaker finally answered John Cena's WrestleMania 34 challenge with a dramatic return and surprising squash victory as WWE's unprecedented decision to allow a John Cena and/or Undertaker WrestleMania match go unadvertised paid off spectacularly.

The Undertaker returned at WrestleMania to squash John Cena.

Must Read

John Cena carried the entire build to a match that was never guaranteed with the all-time great desperately calling out The Undertaker on Raw and social media. WWE's decision to keep fans on their toes by not booking any Undertaker appearances leading up to the event was a sign-of-the-times booking decision reportedly orchestrated by a man who many unfairly criticized as being "out of touch."

Per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

"From Vince McMahon's standpoint, the belief is that the audience knows he's going to show up and this is the "story" that brings him back to 'kick Cena's ass.'

"They are also of the belief announcing Taker in advance won't compel anyone to purchase the network, as anyone inclined is getting the network for the show anyway. This is Vince McMahon's story and he seems very happy with it."

An estimated 70,000 fans joined McMahon in their apparent happiness with the angle. This angle is so much bigger than just a dream match. It represents uncharted territory.

WWE was able to leverage the brand power of WrestleMania—to forego promoting one of its biggest matches—the era of information—where fans could simply Google news and rumors that suggested Undertaker would be in appearance—and social media—where John Cena kept the storyline alive through incessant trolling—to book a storyline and match that will be remembered for decades.

Must Read

The WWE Network is still only four years old, so the majority of WWE's booking still follows the format from the pay-per-view era where television storylines were meant to encourage fans to pony up $59.99 to their provider of choice. When WWE was exclusively on pay-per-view, it couldn't announce a John Cena vs. Undertaker match fast enough. The allure of such a novel showdown would be the driving force behind a healthy buyrate. But today? WWE's shrewdly understated build of a match that could have headlined any of the past 10 WrestleManias somehow allowed rampant fan speculation to become part of the storyline.

In this new climate, WWE has gutted its entire pay-per-view model in favor of an over-the-top network designed to keep pace with a culture of streaming that is becoming more threatening to traditional television with every passing year. Though rights fees from television are WWE's highest revenue stream by far, its WWE Network model gives it the creative liberty to book the world's first anti-pay-per-view WrestleMania match.

What's crazy about this is WWE's only significant increase in subscribers comes during WrestleMania season, and it still chose to play Undertaker vs. John Cena close to the vest.

On a weekend where a real-life pro wrestling-style storyline (steel chair and all), anchored by the increasingly unstable Conor McGregor, sabotaged UFC 223 on pay-per-view, WWE's less-is-more approach has enhanced a WrestleMania match between its two premier living legends that, judging by the finish, could be an extension of an unprecedented buildup.

Hard fall forces Warriors' Patrick McCaw to leave game on stretcher

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Golden State Warriors second-year guard Patrick McCaw was taken off the court on a stretcher after being undercut inadvertently by Sacramento Kings forward Vince Carter.

McCaw took an awkward, hard spill as a result of the contact and landed on what appeared to be his backside.

The Warriors announced late Saturday that a chest X-ray and CT scan came back clear and that McCaw will undergo an MRI.

"I just hope he's OK,'' Carter said. "I play this game because I love it and enjoy it, not to see young guys get hurt. He has a bright future. I just hate to see it."

McCaw drove the baseline and went down hard after being hit in the lower body by Carter with 41.8 seconds left in the third quarter of Golden State's 112-96 victory. McCaw stayed on the floor for about 10 minutes in pain with his body contorted sideways.

Both teams were in shock, and Golden 1 Center was silent as McCaw lay on the court.

Teammate Nick Young had a difficult time looking in the direction of McCaw while he was being tended to.

"It was really scary," Golden State coach Steve Kerr said after the game. "He was in a lot of pain, laying on his back. ... It's scary stuff."

McCaw was placed on a stretcher and wheeled away with his neck stabilized. He was taken to UC Davis Medical Center in an ambulance for further evaluation.

"It's terrifying. That's all we're thinking about," said Kerr, who did not want to talk about anything from the game itself. "We just hope he's OK."

McCaw was given a standing ovation, and both teams huddled together in unity for prayer.

"Said a prayer for him, you know, because he didn't want to be there, you know what I mean? So just a bunch of good guys doing the right thing," Carter said of the huddle.

Soon after, Warriors players David West, Shaun Livingston and JaVale McGee went to the locker room to calm their emotions.

In discussing the play, Carter, who was given a flagrant foul 1, said he only remembered McCaw's "foot hitting the side of my leg." He said his involvement in the play troubled him despite it being "a freak accident."

"You can tell me whatever -- it was an accident, whatever. I just don't like to see it," Carter said.

Kerr initially expressed anger toward Carter for his role in McCaw's fall, but as the severity of the situation became more apparent, Kerr came onto the court and consoled a visibly shaken Carter as they looked on at McCaw.

"I didn't see a replay," Kerr said. "Vince felt horrible. I was out there next to [Carter]."

Following the game, Carter walked over to Kerr and the Warriors' coaching staff to further apologize.

Warriors stars Kevin Durant and Draymond Green both said they believed it was an accident.

"I know Vince's spirit and his heart. I don't believe it was intentional at all," Durant said. "It looked like he was just caught in the middle of the play and wanted to move out of the way, but Pat was coming so fast. It was just an unfortunate play. Nobody in our locker room thinks Vince did that on purpose."

Added Green: "Vince is not that type of guy. He's never been that type of guy. Freak accidents, things happen. A guy jumps and he didn't touch him much, but if you're as high as you can jump, you lose your balance easier. I know that was tough on Vince.''

Loyola's NCAA tournament run ends with 69-57 loss to Michigan in Final Four

The team that simply was supposed to be happy to be here was crushed to leave.

Loyola was dressed in Cinderella sparkles throughout March, the unlikely underdog with a No. 11 seed that managed to pull off magical upsets. But the Ramblers will tell you — they showed us — that they were talented enough, competitive enough and definitely wanted more.

From March 2 when they tipped off the Missouri Valley Conference tournament en route to a league championship to the final day of the month on Saturday night that ended with a 69-57 Final Four loss to No. 3-seed Michigan, the Ramblers defied expectations and changed the perception of the program.

Must Read

The Loyola Ramblers' Cinderella story ended Saturday night against the Michigan Wolverines at the Alamodome in San Antonio. (Chicago Tribune)

The Ramblers, who had victory within grasp, imagined themselves where few others did. This time there was no miracle shot or heroic comeback, and it stung deeply.

“We were happy to be here but we also wanted more,” point guard Clayton Custer said. “We were up 10 points in the second half. We should have won the game. I just feel so bad for this team. We should be playing in the national championship.”

It’s why Marques Townes sobbed in the handshake line. Why Ben Richardson hid his face under his jersey leaning on best friend Custer for support. Why Donte Ingram’s perma-smile was missing for the first time this March, replaced with an expression of resigned disbelief. Why coach Porter Moser took several deep breaths during his postgame news conference to collect himself.

Custer allowed himself to contemplate the magic that Loyola spun during the NCAA tournament. The team was a national favorite for its upset victories and, of course, 98-year-old chaplain Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt.

It’s a team that will be remembered, players said, recognizing their rise from obscurity to celebrity.

“I think we inspired a city,” Custer said. “We inspired a lot of people across the country. People can be proud to say that they went to Loyola. The word Loyola has a whole new meaning now. We proved to ourselves that we can play with anybody in the country.”

Loyola (32-6) was out of character during stretches, especially a sequence in the second half where the game slipped away with five straight turnovers. The Ramblers had 17 miscues for the game. Loyola, which averaged 15.8 assists per game, had only six against Michigan.

Then there was 6-foot-11 forward Moe Wagner who scored 24 points with 15 rebounds, including six offensive boards, while also burying three 3-pointers.

“He got some offensive rebounds,” Moser said. “That was some of (what) you give up with our size, and he got down on the block.”

Townes (eight points, seven rebounds) injured his left quadriceps with about 71/2 minutes left, leaving limping but returning a couple of minutes later.

Freshman center Cameron Krutwig scored a team-high 17 points with six rebounds but also suffered six turnovers. His three-point play to start the second half and provide Loyola with a 32-22 lead allowed Ramblers fans to believe this team could pull off an upset once again.

“Obviously tonight we didn’t execute the game plan,” Richardson said.

Sitting beside him at a news conference, Moser whispered, “Yes, you did.”

Next season’s team won’t have Richardson, Ingram or Aundre Jackson. But it will have a legacy.

As freshmen, Richardson and Ingram played in front of “maybe 100 on a good day,” Ingram said. They played Saturday in front of a crowd of 68,257 at the Alamodome on the grandest stage of their sport. “Obviously this is something that will keep us connected for the rest of our lives.”

Moser checked his seniors out of the game one by one, meeting each on the sideline with a handshake and a hug. Sister Jean was pushed to the side of the court yet again at the end of the game, where this time she met and consoled players instead of greeting them with celebratory hugs.

She left them with a gem of perspective.

“Sister Jean just said it was a great season,” Jackson said. “(She said) she was so happy to be on this run with us, and we should keep our heads high and be happy with what we accomplished.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scores two amazing goals for Los Angeles Galaxy in his MLS debut

As debuts go, it was about as perfect as you could imagine. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a soccer player with a flair for the dramatic like few others, produced a Hollywood-style script for his introduction to the American audience.

Ibrahimovic has been one of the world’s most prolific soccer stars for the past decade, but he only arrived in the United States late on Thursday night. It didn’t slow him down.

On Saturday, the Swedish superstar propelled the Los Angeles Galaxy to a remarkable comeback in its first-ever match against crosstown rival Los Angeles FC. The Galaxy rallied from a three-goal deficit to prevail 4-3.

"I heard the fans chanting, 'We want Zlatan,' " Ibrahimovic said. "I gave them Zlatan."

Ibrahimovic joined the Galaxy from Manchester United of the English Premier League and his late arrival meant he was kept on the bench until 20 minutes remaining. By then LAFC, in its first season as an expansion team, had powered ahead thanks to two goals from Carlos Vela and an own goal from Daniel Steres, before Sebastian Lletget struck for the Galaxy.

Within three minutes of his introduction, Ibrahimovic was involved in helping Chris Pontius narrow the gap further — but the best was yet to come.

After 77 minutes, the ball fell to Ibrahimovic around 40 yards from goal, on an angle. He didn’t think twice, spotting goalkeeper Tyler Miller off his line – firing an extraordinary strike over Miller and into the net.

Then, with just moments left in the contest, he sealed a memorable victory and an unforgettable debut. Ibrahimovic may have been in a slightly offside position when he connected with Ashley Cole’s cross and headed home the winning goal, but the goal stood, and a new chapter to a notable career was underway.

Markelle Fultz Returns for the 76ers, and He Brought His Jumper

A day after the Philadelphia 76ers clinched the team’s first playoff appearance since 2012, and 154 days since he last appeared in a game, Markelle Fultz, the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft, was back on the court Monday night. And this time around, he looked like the difference-maker nearly everyone once thought he would be.

Before the game against the Denver Nuggets, Coach Brett Brown announced to reporters that Fultz would be active for the game and that it had been the player’s decision to come back.

“I get goose bumps telling you all that,” Brown said. “I’m so proud of him.”

Fultz made his entrance with 2 minutes 54 seconds remaining in the first quarter to thunderous applause at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia and chants of “Fultz” — which he later said confused him, as he thought they were chanting for Nick Foles, the quarterback who recently led the Philadelphia Eagles to a win in Super Bowl LII.

figure class="media twitter embedded layout-horizontal-inset">

After turning the ball over on his first trip up the court, Fultz settled down and scored his first points since October on an easy layup.

It was not all pretty in the first half, as Fultz, who had struggled mightily with his jump shot back in October, came up well short of the rim on an 11-footer that represented his only outside shot of the half. His movement was fluid, without the jerkiness that had plagued him earlier in the season, but the result was the same.

Must Read

The difference on Monday was that Fultz, who has battled confidence issues, fought through the struggle. He looked confident running the point and showed a flair for finishing at the rim. And he finally got the jump-shot monkey off his back when he connected on a 14-footer with 2:13 left in the game, prompting fans and players to leap to their feet in support of the 19-year-old. Less than a minute later he added a 20-footer, the longest make of his short N.B.A. career.
“The way that he was welcomed by our city? Spectacular,” Brown said at his postgame news conference. “The way he was embraced by his teammates just reinforces what I think of our group and how close they really are.”

In all, Fultz played 14 minutes in Philadelphia’s 123-104 victory. He shot 5 for 13 from the field and finished with 10 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds. Most important, the 76ers outscored the Nuggets by 16 points when Fultz was on the court.

While he did not seem eager to discuss his injury history or his confidence problems after the game, Fultz showed a sense of humor when asked how he thought the game went.

“It went exactly like I planned,” he said. “I was hoping we’d get the ‘W’ and we got it.”

For Fultz to once again look like a player worthy of his draft status was a revelation for the 76ers, who made quite a splash last June when they surrendered first-round picks in 2017 and 2018 to the Boston Celtics in order to obtain the top pick in 2017 and the right to select Fultz. The move to get Fultz, considered the best player in his draft class, was supposed to be the finishing piece of a team-building puzzle that had come to be known as The Process during Sam Hinkie’s years as the team’s general manager.
The Process has come to fruition, with Philadelphia’s former lottery picks, Joel Embiid (drafted in 2014) and Ben Simmons (2016), being far and away the best players for a team that has improved from 10-72 just two seasons ago to being 43-30 after Monday’s game. But the improvement has come without any help from Fultz.

Fultz was a fantastic shooter in his lone collegiate season at Washington, connecting on 41.3 percent of his 3-point attempts, but he had a brutal start to his rookie season for the 76ers, turning in completely ineffective performances in his first four games. He did not even attempt a 3-pointer — none of his shots were from even 16 feet away from the basket — and he averaged just 6 points a game. He was then sidelined with what the team called a scapular imbalance in his shoulder.

Online debates ran wild over whether Fultz was dealing with a shoulder injury or a case of the yips, with several videos surfacing of Fultz badly missing jumpers in the gym while trying to regain his form. Before Monday’s game, 76ers General Manager Bryan Colangelo said that Fultz had been cleared medically for some time and that it had been up to him as to when he would try to get back on the court.

“It’s about him being comfortable and him being in the right situation to be in a position to help us and help his teammates out there,” Colangelo said.

He added, “If we didn’t feel this was putting him in the right situation we wouldn’t have him out there.”

With nine games remaining in the regular season, the 76ers will be trying to evaluate if Fultz can help the team during its long-anticipated playoff run. If Monday was any indication, they have added an impact player.
